As a last post of 2020 (as it turns out with a new baby it is my first post of 2021 instead) I wanted to pivot for a moment from recipes and kitchen tools and my main focus on home cooking, and highlight some local restaurants and food trucks that are doing a great job feeding my community even as they struggle to adapt to the ever-changing landscape of pandemic dining.
Due to the large volume of great places to support, please consider this post a work in progress. I will be adding more specific information regarding what people like on the menu at each place, as well as photos as I procure them. What you will find about each place I’ve listed is the address and contact info, and when I get to it, the photos and more about what our community mentioned they liked about them. Feel free to add your input in the comments or message me with your favorites!
Please consider ordering directly from the restaurants, as delivery services take a cut of their already thin-margin profits which is good for drivers/delivery services, but means less restaurants will survive.
I want to share my gratitude and empathy, but also to do what I can to help our community support these hard-working people by remembering all of the places that need our business in order to get through this last stretch of social distancing. I’ve asked my local nextdoor.com community, as well as a few neighborhood facebook groups (food focused or otherwise) for their favorite places to pick-up or have food delivered, along with specific dishes, or other reasons they’re beloved eateries.

Pizza Coop
A local family-owned business with a laid back attitude, interesting beers, and in normal times is a fun place for large groups or if you want to watch the game. Biggest menu mentions by community (and I agree) include excellent food. Pizzas are interesting and delicious. Generous toppings and high quality ingredients. Akane Ramen
This little unassuming spot serves a range of Japanese dishes, but what everyone raves about (myself included) is the Ramen (as the name suggests). The broths are complex and made in-house from scratch and there isn’t one that someone didn’t mention as their favorites over on social media. High quality all-around and for me, one order is enough for two meals. La Riviera Maya Truck

Italianissimo Ristorante
You’ve likely heard of it and probably eaten there, but have you tried the fries? Do you believe that several folks mentioned that the calamari is even good as take-out? Not only is the food the stuff of dreams, they source everything they can locally, the sauces are made in house, and the dishes reflect the passion and creativity of the owners and staff.
