Obligatory Dalgona Coffee

Because it is the great quarantine/shelter in place of 2020, I had to climb aboard the speeding locomotive that is Dalgona Coffee (click here if you need to catch up on what it is, and how it got so trendy).

It is easy, inexpensive, fun, versatile and delicious, so why not?

You’ll need:

  • 2 tablespoons instant coffee
  • 2 teaspoons confectioners (powdered) sugar — regular sugar will work too
  • 2 tablespoons hot water
  • crushed ice (or regular ice if you don’t have crushed)
  • milk

Go ahead and fill a glass about half full with ice and pour milk over it to cover. Then you’ll put your coffee, sugar and hot water in a small bowl and whisk it until it whips up and gets poofy and foamy. Spoon that magic over the milk and ice and you’re in business. When you drink it, just stir the foam into the cold milk and the combination is a creamy, strong coffee drink!

Variations & Thoughts: hot milk or hot chocolate on the bottom instead of ice and milk, top with a sprinkling of instant coffee crystals, shaved chocolate, or toasted coconut. Serve with a cookie or biscotti. If you want to booze it up, I think any coffee or chocolate liqueur would do nicely in the milk section of the drink. I’ll know soon if I’m wrong! Also, prepare for a chocolate mustache. This would make a nice quarantine selfie timestamp.
