This represents the simplicity of Fall in New England. Maple and apples. Apples are sweet, so you don’t need to do much to them besides simmer and add three simple ingredients you probably already have.
Maple Applesauce
Ingredients:
- 5 apples, peeled, cored, cut up
- 2 teaspoons lemon juice or clear vinegar sprinkled over the apples to avoid browning
- 1-2 tablespoons real maple syrup (depending on how sweet you prefer)
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
Instructions:
- Over a medium burner, heat apples with 1/2 cup water plus vinegar to coat. Stir occasionally about one hour, or until apples are falling apart.
- Mash apples (like potatoes).
- Add maple syrup and cinnamon, and stir until thoroughly blended.
- Allow the applesauce to cool and store in the fridge for 4-5 days.
Serve hot or cold.
