Amaretto Root Beer

Sunday night cocktails became a tradition at our house when the tv show Mad Men was still airing, and recently I persuaded Mike (of “Mike’s Cocktails” and also famous for being my husband, of course) to bring it back! Previously I mostly posted his cocktails on Instagram (@mdelishboutique) but I will now post the best of them here as well.

Being that it is Summer, and for a lot of us that means memories of childhood and summer breaks, last night his cocktail featured root beer. Because he planned this cocktail last-minute this time, we had Barq’s root beer on-hand, but I plan on trying these again with some fancy schmancy artisan root beer, and why not make it a float? A small scoop of french vanilla ice cream would be next level. And why not toy with the idea of some whisky for good measure? I digress. Without further adieu, here’s the recipe:

Amaretto Root Beer

  • 2 ounces Amaretto
  • 1 can or bottle of root beer
  • lots of ice
  • rocks or pint glass (depending on how strong you like your drinks)

Fill glass with ice. Pour Amaretto over ice. Fill remainder of glass with root beer. Stir well to make sure that Amaretto doesn’t just sit at the bottom of your glass. Yes, it is really that simple.

Refreshing, and on the sweeter side, just like a cocktail on a Summer night should be.
